CCCofA Checker Monster
On June 26th the Checker Monster posted on Facebook the following
Seems that this project was never completed even though its been 4 years. ICTA often disparages the official national club in their blog for not “following through” Our question is, did Kaela Petkovits get her car returned as promised? OK ICTA, where is Kaela’s car? looking forward to reading the explanation. if you have no intention of completing this project after appearing in Hemmings ship the Checker here and we will finish it ourselves and return it to Kaela.
.
.
In addition to the comment, he posted the Hemmings Motor News link
.
.
Well, as usual the smelly one is wrong and of course barking up the wrong tree. The ICTA never received a Checker. The Hemmings News article is quite clear that the car was purchased by Daniel Smith and Bill Crawford. Per the Hemmings article “
With contributions from other group members and support from Checker Motor Cars, the two have bought the Checker, assessed its condition, and shipped it to Smith in Phoenix for the restoration. No timeline has been posted for the car’s completion and return to Seattle.”
.
THE ICTA RESPONSE
.
Dan currently has the Checker and has made progress in its restoration. Additionally more parts have been donated by ICTA members. According to Dan Smith “Per Kaila, I am holding off on putting the car together. That was her asking since her life is busy for the next few years”. He further states that he is not part of the ICTA and that he fully intends on finishing the restoration.
.
Prior to the Covid epidemic we posted a youtube video that shared Dan’s operation and progress.
.

Full Text of Dan’s response
.
Bottom line as usual the Checker Monster is wrong again. It’s also important to note the since the video was posted, the world has changed and we all have had to deal with COVID. Additionally, Dan has taken over the late Joe Pollard’s CheckerParts business and has spent a lot of effort moving the business from California to Arizona. Prioirties do change.
.
The ICTA has challenged other club’s legal obligations to produced contracted four quaterly Newsletters, if you receive dues, you have to deliver. As the Checker Monster has pointed out the ICTA has challenged the other club, the club has not updated their web site since 2018 and can not seem to produce four quarterly newsletters as promised. Valid challenges.
.
We do not charge dues, yet have consistently generated great weekly web based content and six newsletters a year. Our members are active and have contributed to the above project. We are proud of our effort and the national recognition we have received from Hemming Motor News.
‘
.

Dan has received additional donations from the Bassett family in California.
.
One last point, the ICTA is the largest and most active Checker Club in the world. The Checker Monster refers to a “National” & “Official” club, its not clear what the hell he is talking about? There are several Checker clubs globally, there is no known “official” club.
BTW since we don’t charge dues, we have no obligations. The consistent ICTA content is created out of passion, we don’t even have a bank account. Our dues is your friendship, the Checker Monster is not a friend or a member of the ICTA.

Not only a club, the ICTA is an archive. That said, it made sense to go back into the archives to see where the Checker Monster AKA Andy Taylor was from a positioning standpoint when the original announcement was made on June 22, 2017. He posted the following “This is the kindest and most AWESOME act ive ever seen in 30 years of the Checker hobby. Kudos to Daniel Smith either I’ll send some funds (things are really tight right now) or I’ll donate parts. I’d love to get the opportunity to get back out to phoenix just to help get it started back up!.”
Couple of key points 1. The Checker Monster was well aware that the project was being executed by Dan Smith, not the ICTA. 2. The Checker Monster made hollow promises of sending funds or parts or to actually help Dan! Based on the update from Dan and verification from Kaela, it looks like the Checker Monster owes some people appologies and funds too!
It’s not too late to man up and send the money or parts to Dan! We know that this is just more unwanted drama from a guy who got thown out of this club years ago after he flipped on his friends some two weeks after his post of support. He can’t seem to live with the decisions he has made and hell bent on just being a pain in the ass.

Well well well, the Checker Monster blinked! Caught in his lies and fakery he has deleted the Facebook post that created more drama in the Checker world. The CCCoA’s bulldog, the toothless wonder is now blathering on about how wonderful his Checker Crack Heads group is and how they are all wonderful people. For those who did not see the original post from June 26th, here it is.
.
Note the smelly one had to insert himself in the business of two Checker fans, made false accusations and disparaged the ICTA.
.
Its clear from the blog narrative that the project is ongoing. The parties involved are happy and more importantly, the ICTA’s role in the project has largely funding via ICTA member donations.
.
The Checker Monster will continue to cause trouble in this hobby and we will stand up to his lies and slander.

POSTSCRIPT 07-04-21
Well it looks like the Checker Monster could not stand the embarassment of being shown a liar. So like any typical narcisistic sociopath, he’s now playing the victim card and looking for sympathy. Here’s his rant, no worries, we have already send a message into the Checker Car Club of America’s lawyers at www.saperlaw.com. Apparently, Mr. Lohsen is having trouble abiding by agreements by joining in on the Checker Monster’s disparagement. We have been on the receiving end of this internet troll for too long, the ICTA will be taking appropriate actions.
Oh yeah here’s some advise for the Checker Monster, when you have your alledge meeting with your Shyster Tulsa lawyer on Thursday. Be prepared to have at least $3000.00 for his retainer and one more thing. Please make sure you can show damages, cuz he will never take a case unless there are documented damages and losses. Given you have admitted to all my accusations on your video, it will be hard to claim you have been wronged and slandered. This writer has a full copy of the your 13.5 minute tirade. Do you have money for a lawyer? I doubt it?
AND THE CHECKER MONSTERS RESPONSE
Just more lies! AND FLYING MONKEYS!!!!!!
POST SCRIPT 08/07/21

Well the Checker Monster is at it again, but clearly is running out of steam. This week his weekly attack on the ICTA was a lame attempt of making fun of the new ICTA Vimeo channel. He mocked us for only having three followers. OOOH, thats so bad, where’s your Youtube channel, Mr Checker Monster? How many followers do you have?
Vimeo will never have a lot of followers as its a secondary back-up channel, paid for too, so we do not have to worry about bogus copyright attacks.
The Vimeo, site was created as a backup site to our Youtube Channel. It’s had over 130 views in the last two weeks. Now granted its not as much as our old Youtube channel had, the channel that the Checker Monster had deleted by filing multiple bogus, copyright claims in the span of 48 hours.
Fifteen years of work, down the drain. We had about 1000 followers and close to a 250K views. The Checker Monster selfeshly destroyed content that thousands of Checker fans enjoyed. We lost about 1/3 of our videos, that were not backed- up. The Checker Monster adds so much to the hobby right?
The monster clearly did not understand the technical merits of Vimeo. Nor does seem to understand that the ICTA still maintains its backup Youtube channel.
It’s interesting to note that the Checker Monster, had all of two “likes” on his feeble attack and one “like” was from himself! So there you have it, the lonely large turd has one follower, most likely his truck stop lot lizard wife (Troll number two).
POST SCRIP 08/09/2021

Well, now the Checker Monster is using big words like “hominem”. He blathers on that this writer will not debate him outside of my span of control, the ICTA blog. Give me FACEBOOK posting rights on “Ask a Checker Mechanic” and I will be happy to debate and show you for the liar and disengenuous creep you are.
What an ass, present the idea that I can not debate, but has blocked me from posting in his group. Whatta dick.
POST SCRIPT
Sadly Dan Smith passed away in March of 2022. Much progress had continued. The car is running and operational. Via coordinations with Dan Smith Estate and family, the car has been given/gifted to Kaela.
Crush it and forever prove ICTA orders politics over preservation.
ONCE A CHECKER CAR THIEF DRUG ADDICT, ALWAYS A CHECKER CAR THIEF DRUG ADDICT from 2011 Enjoy!!! 🙂 AN OPEN LETTER OF APOLOGY TO MY CHECKER FRIENDS I have thought about writing this letter for a very long, long time. I have not done so, as every time I have attempted to do so, It looked like a list of lame excuses. I had a lot of friends in this club, and I have let a lot of people down. However, the reasons are years long gone, all I can do is admit my mistakes and humbly ask for forgiveness, and attempt to set the re cord straight. Some will understand, some will not. I accept that. As some of you know, I disappeared in 2001. This was not an attempt to avoid fulfilling any obliga tions; the fact was, I had some very serious and life threatening problems at home, and I was too ashamed and prideful to ask for help. To those who do not know me, a bit of history: I had created the Mid America chapter of the Checker Car Club, with permission from the late Steve Wilson. My newsletter was a technical publication more than anything. I have no idea if any copies of this newsletter exists anymore. (Ed. Note: none exist in the club ar chives; a few articles were printed in the old newsletters which we do have copies of.) This naturally led to buying as many Checkers I could find, and that, in turn, led to selling parts. Things went very well for a few years. I was enjoying life, playing with Checkers, learning all I could about parts interchange, and learned how to update the older cars with modern suspension. Then, in short order, my life started to erode for no apparent reason and everything fell apart. One day I discovered I was flat broke. It didn’t make any sense to me at the time. I shouldn’t have been. Without sharing most of the horrid details, it turns out that my wife at the time had developed a nasty drug habit. Me being a naive kid from the farm, I didn’t even know the signs of drug use as I knew nothing of that world. I knew something was wrong, but I didn’t know what. I then knew why I was broke. It took being literally being knocked in the head from behind by her with a tire iron one evening to real ize something was horribly wrong. It knocked me out, and I do not know to this day how long. A neighbor found me, and took me to the hospital. Naturally, that ended the marriage. As time went on, now alone, despite my best efforts, I slipped into a deep depression. I had people very irate with me, because there was some parts that had not been sent. I was destitute, and did not even have the money to send them out. Nor did I seem to have the heart to work or care at the time, and that’s the truth. I knew by the angry posts in the old Check erboard that my reputation, which I had worked so hard for, was going in the toilet. I felt it was impossi ble and unbelievable to try to explain that their money was snorted up someone’s nose. I saw no way out with any shred of credibility, so why bother? I was angry and hurt, so I lashed out at everyone and every thing. Lost all of my friends. This only accelerated my downward spiral to the bottom. I reasoned that people would not under stand, that was my problem, so I then made another mistake. Telling people anything and everything just to get them off my back. That made me a liar. I wanted to be alone, and left alone. Looking back, what I SHOULD have done is “come clean” and just be honest about it. But I was too ashamed, too young and prideful to do that. Next dumb mistake: I took to drinking heavily, and soon lost my drivers license as a result. Now I was in real trouble, because all I had running was Checkers at the time, and you can see them coming a mile away. I was alone … and no way to get any where without facing jail time. When I finally did get my drivers license back, I loaded up the Medicar and headed west leaving the house, Checkers, and parts behind (they sold the home for taxes). I wanted no part or reminder of the past. That old Medicar was home for three years until I to taled it, again, due to my drinking. What I was look ing for, I didn’t know, but I can tell you this: after I lost EVERYTHING, not knowing where the next meal was coming from, I suddenly came face to face with myself. And I hated that person far worse than any of you possibly could. Long story short, I woke up in a hospital with pneumonia. I almost died. I knew if I didn’t some how get back on the right track, I probably would. I set about changing the things I didn’t like about my self. The 1974 wagon had been driven to Spring
field and stored. When I returned to Missouri in 04, I couldn’t stand the sight of that Checker wagon, as it was a testament to my failures. I sold it (although I now regret it). I have not drank in 7 years. I now have a lov ing and supportive wife and family, and have learned to never take things for granted because I now know they can be gone in an instant. I even feel well enough to restore another Checker. Although I will never be able to own the rarer models I once had. I certainly have no intention to EVER sell parts again. I will more than likely restore this 1973 Mara thon, and that’s it. It’s like a long lost friend has re turned, and I’m through beating myself up. I will al ways love these cars, even if I have to drive it alone and never go to a show. There is one thing I want to set straight right now. There is a rumor that I stole a 1964 blue six door Aerobus. I did not steal a car, or I would have been in jail. That car sat in the driveway for three years, ac cording to neighbors. I was told it was gone, so I as sumed the owner picked it up. I repeatedly told the owner to come and get it, the location of the car was public record, and he knew exactly where is was. The work was finished, it would run and drive. That car would be hard to hide. The parts deals I did drop the ball on and I freely admit that. But I am NOT a car thief! For those of you who understand, Thank You. For those who don’t, just know that I paid a very high price for my mistakes, got a pound of skin from myself and it almost cost me my life. Andy Taylor
You can fool some of the people some of the time, but no all of the people all of the time! Sorry Andy, you’re perhaps the biggest snake in the Checker Marathon hobby
He’s at it again. When will this guy go away? Stole a lot of CB radios from truckers too! I thought he died a while back?
so where is that car now???
