1972 was a big year for Checker Motors Corp, it was the 50th anniversary of the famed company that specialized in purpose built taxicabs.
In 1960 Checker made its official entry in to the retail consumer car market: a little slow it only took Checker 38 years! Two years later Checker celebrated its 40th anniversary with significant hoopla, at least in advertising. Hoopla aside, they did not offer an anniversary model to consumers in 1962, the make was just two years old in the consumer car market, what could Checker do, offer a 2 year model?

Here’s your chance to own a rare bird within Checker circles. Vicki Willess is selling her 1972 Anniversary Marathon.
This 1972 Checker Marathon, was originally painted with the “Golden Anniversary” paint scheme. It was equipped with the town car vinyl roof, a 350 Chevy with factory installed Borg-Warner transmission.
Today the Checker is painted off white, imagine what it would look like in gold!
Look at all that leg room!
Thankfully the removal of the vinyl roof save this Marathon from the dreaded roof rust
