1972 was a big year for Checker Motors Corp, it was the 50th anniversary of the famed company that specialized in purpose built taxicabs.
In 1960 Checker made its official entry in to the retail consumer car market: a little slow it only took Checker 38 years! Hoopla aside, they did not offer an anniversary model to consumers in 1962, the make was just two years old in the consumer car market, what could Checker do, offer a 2 year model?
