This is an extremely rare, fully functional Checker A11. It was sold new in Tucson, AZ, and has been in the dry desert it’s entire life. Always garaged and well maintained, and never used as a cab. Most private Checker cars were the upscale A12 Marathon, so it is very rare to see an A11 taxicab model that was not used up as a taxi.
I have owned this car for about ten years, and believe I am the third owner. The second owner was a doctor in Tucson, and used the checker as his daily transportation for over 20 years.
Factory equipped with the optional 350 Chevy V8, 2 Barrel carb, and Borg Warner Automatic transmission.
Factory power disc brakes up front, drums in the rear, power steering.
Fully functional, ice cold AC- converted to 134A many years ago, and holds it’s charge perfectly.
Zero rust Arizona car. One repaint in the original color many years ago, and the paint still holds a nice shine. I wax it regularly.
“Cab Grey” interior, seats recovered in original vinyl, floors cleaned, sanded, painted with POR15, then completely covered in Dynamat, followed with heat insulation and custom loop carpeting. Most Checkers are rattle-boxes, but this one is nice and quiet.
Original Checker jump seats in the back, so this is a real 8 passenger car.
Modern Sony CD stereo discreetly mounted under the dash, paired to Custom Autosound mid/tweeters surface mounted on the front kick panels, with a small subwoofer under the seat. The system sounds great, and is almost invisible.
New Hancook whitewalls 3 years ago, with very few miles since.
Timing chain and water pump replaced less than 5000 miles ago.
Recent oil change, upper and lower radiator hoses, thermostat, coolant flush, carburetor rebuild, and electric, frame mounted fuel pump.
The Checker is licensed, insured, runs, drives and stops. I have a clear AZ title, plus all receipts for the work done during my ownership. It does like to warm up to operating temperature before driving, and the front brake rotors are a bit warped (they pulse when warm). I will include a new set of brake pads for the new owner. I have several vintage cars, and I just don’t drive this one very much anymore. Time for someone else to enjoy!
Call, text, or email is all fine. If you see this ad, I still have the car.
