This sad note was posted on Classic Taxi’s Facebook page:

To all of our loyal customers and friends,  It is with a heavy heart that I am closing the doors of Classic Taxi. You all have given us 7 years of great success and I wish we were able to continue. Unfortunately our insurance rates were increased by almost 50% even though we have never filed a claim. Taxi insurance is very expensive and we can not stay competitive if we raise prices to cover this increase

I do not plan on selling my beloved Checker Cab and you will still see me driving around town as always. I can now take the time needed to fully restore the car and hope to have it in excellent condition soon.  Thanks again for seven fantastic years,

God Bless you all,
Walt and Rosie.

Happy Customers, great reviews

For those unfamiliar with Walt’s business, Walt’s Classic Checker taxis was available twenty-four hours, seven days a week for all customer transportation needs in the Prescott, Arizona area. Walt ran one 1972 Checker Model A11 taxicab.  Painted Green, Ivory and white, the cab paint scheme is comparable to New York City National cabs that operated in the early 1960’s.

According to Walt he operates only lovingly restored classic taxi cabs. His uniformed drivers are handpicked for their professionalism and they all take pride in their work. Walt services allowed customers to step back in time to when customer service was a daily commitment instead of a place to stand in line.

We’re really sad to see Walt shut down and wish him the best of luck.  There a just a handful of cabbies still operating Checkers 24 hours a day.
